Friends University’s Fine Arts Division in the College of Business, Arts, Sciences and Education has a reputation for exceptional programs in the performing and visual arts. We offer performances and exhibits in music, theatre, ballet and visual arts as part of our academic programs.
Music: Great choirs, jazz ensembles, bands and orchestras provide a variety of performances annually. From the sounds of the Singing Quakers to our Jazz I Big Band and Chamber Orchestra, we program an eclectic mix of music by more than 20 ensembles each academic year.
Visual Arts: Faculty and students regularly exhibit on campus and across Wichita. We also host 8-10 guest artists in the Riney Fine Arts Center Gallery. Exhibits rotate monthly.
Theatre and Ballet: Enjoy 4 annual theatre productions along with 3 productions of contemporary and traditional ballet. Each year we produce the holiday classic “The Nutcracker” which is always a favorite! Other ballet performances feature guest dancers and choreographers with our talented students.
Faculty and Guest Artists: Friends faculty ensembles and soloists perform recitals annually. More than 15 guest artists, choreographers and musicians present master-classes and performances each year at Friends University.
Fine Arts Division faculty and students collaborate regularly to produce Musical Theater and Opera. Many groups and ensembles in the division perform and exhibit off campus, nationally and internationally. Recent opportunities include: Ballet students performing in Cancun, Mexico; Art students study abroad experience in France; Singing Quaker tour of Canada; Jazz Ensemble I performing at the Havana (Cuba) Jazz Festival; Jazz Vocal Ensemble performing at the Jazz Education Network Conference in Atlanta.
