The Kansas African American Museum (TKAAM) was established in 1972. They work diligently to identify and acquire documentary materials to strengthen its archival collections such as rare books, manuscript collections, art, photography, film recordings and other audiovisual materials.
Each year TKAAM sponsors the Summer Youth Arts Academy, a cultural enrichment program for youth. It was established to aid in strengthening cultural awareness and to develop individual interests and skills through stimulation and participation. The Academy provides formal and informal experiences in the arts for children (8-16 years) with a focus on developing an appreciation for the arts.
